The Barcelo Maya Grand Resort complex is comprised of five resorts located within a huge 123 acre section of coastal rain forest along the Rivera Maya (Barcelo Maya Tropical, Barcelo Maya Colonial, Barcelo Maya Beach, Barcelo Maya Caribe and the Barcelo Maya Palace)
The Barcelo Maya Tropical and Barcelo Maya Colonial Resorts, which opened in 2005, are located next to one another and are mostly identical mirror images of each other. Guests staying at either the Tropical or Colonial will not only have access to their resorts amenities but will be able to enjoy access to two of the other resorts (Caribe, Beach); only the Barcelo Palace, which is the newest of the resort on the property, has restricted access.
This means that guests can indulge in 6 huge swimming pools that include shallow areas for children as well as the Barcy Water Park for kids. The Barcelo also includes Pirates Island Water Park (additional charges apply) with slides and attractions available for the entire family. Along with the large refreshing pools, Barcelo Grand Maya is located on a beautiful 1.2 mile white-sand beach shared by the other companion resorts and offers a variety of water sport activities such as kayaking, windsurfing and snorkeling all as part of the all-inclusive package.
While staying at the Barcelo Maya Tropical and/or Colonial guests will have all-inclusive dining privileges at the Buffet and à la carte restaurants for their resort as well for the other two companion resorts (Barcelo Maya Beach, Barcelo Maya Caribe). The Buffet restaurant is available for a guests entire stay. However, access to the à la carte specialty restaurants depends on the length of stay:
- Guests staying 1 and 2 nights may dine at buffet restaurants only.
- Guests staying 3 nights receive 1 ticket per room to any à la carte restaurant in the resort complex.
- Guests staying 4 to 6 nights receive 2 tickets per room to any à la carte restaurant in the resort complex.
- Guests staying 7 to 9 nights receive 4 tickets per room to any à la carte restaurant in the resort complex.
The Barcelo Maya Caribe and Barcelo Maya Beach were the original resorts open by the Barcelo Resorts in 1999. Similar to the Tropical/Colonial resorts, the Caribe and Beach are basically identical to one another with similar room selections and pools. They also both share the entire beach area with the other resorts but enjoy the nicest and most swim-able stretch of beach. The premium level rooms were recently upgraded.
The Barcelo Maya Palace is the newest of the resorts and opened in 2007. The Palace is designed to be a little more upscale with slightly larger rooms and some premium amenities. The buffet and al carte restaurants are on the seaward side with ocean views during dining.
The Barcelo Maya Grand Resort is a perfect place for families and couples alike and offers plenty of relaxation and fun for both beach and pool lovers. Located 12 miles south of Playa del Carmen, the Barcelo enjoys easy access to a wide range of adventures available in the Riviera Maya.
