The Occidental Grand Xcaret is part of the larger family of Occidental resorts and hotels and is located south of Playa Del Carmen adjacent to the Xcaret eco-archiological park. This resort boast almost 700 rooms and offers all-inclusive amenities that include unlimited drinks, snacks and meals, 2 buffet restaurants, 5 specialty a la carte restaurants, 2 night-time snack bars, 9 bars, 1 night club, 5 pools, fitness center, 2 tennis courts, mini golf, archery and kids club. Wi-Fi is also available in the rooms and common areas but charges apply.
The Occidental Grand Xcaret is a very good value for being on the lower end of the cost spectrum. It is fairly large and offers plenty of eating and activity options as well as accommodation options for couples and families alike. However, it is important to note that beach lovers may want to look elsewhere. This resort is located on a very rocky section of the coast line that is not conducive to having a large natural beach area. To compensate for this, a large man-made lagoon was created with water flowing in from the Caribbean ocean. There is a nice two tiered beach area but its a on the smaller side and doesn’t carry the same ambience as a natural beach directly on the ocean. On the plus side, the resorts five pools are large with plenty of seating available and there are actual Mayan ruins on the resort grounds, which is pretty awesome.
Another positive to consider if you are vacationing with children, the resort of located directly next to (and even connected to) the hugely popular Xcaret eco-archilogical park. and Xpolr Adventure park. The resort if also a relatively short taxi drive from all that Playa Del Carmen has to offer.
