Weather along the Riviera Maya

To be quite honest there is no bad time to vacation along the Yucatan coast. Of course this is a matter of opinion and preference. The temperature is warm and sometimes fairly hot. This coupled with fairly high tropical humidity and frequent rain storms makes the climate unique. During the rainy season it can often rain every day. Sometimes just for short periods and at other times it for extended time frames.  During this season there is also the possibility of hurricanes but more often the storms blow through and topical sun returns. Yet even in the midst of the rain the temperature remains warm. The Riviera Maya is located in the continental region, which is a semi-tropical climate with an average temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius) but can reach upwards of 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius) in the summer months. May thru September tend to have the highest temperatures while June & September tend to have most rain on average. However, the tropical thunderstorms can be found rolling through the area all year long.

To determine a best time to travel really depends on what one is looking for. The most moderate temperature can be found December through April. However, this is also considered the high season due to the many travelers vacationing during the Holidays and Spring Break while taking advantage of the weather. This will mean that the prices at the resorts are a bit higher along with the occupancy rate. The rainy season begins in late April/ early May as does the increase in the temperature. May through early September can also be quite busy due to families vacationing while their kids are out of school. The rains begin to decrease somewhat near the end of September and into October /November as well as the number of people vacationing.

The Yucatan coastline is lush and beautiful all year round and wonderful weather can be found in every month and every season. One can pretty much plan on having some measure of rain during a  7 – 10 day stay in the area but there will also be plenty of sun and opportunity to take in all that Mexico’s incredible Caribbean coast has to offer.
